Besteel

A high-end finish with bespoke stair stringers & window features

The demands of modern, minimalist architecture continue to push the boundaries of both form and function. Structural elements such as exposed columns and beams, formed concrete, window hoods and screens, and elegant staircases now take centre stage as design features in modern homes. For Sjøhavn House in Noosa, we used state of the art CNC profile cutting coupled with quality craftmanship to deliver sleek, slimline stair stringers and perforated privacy screens for St Andrews Constructions.

Superior materials for a superior finish

Like all commodities, the quality of plate steel can vary significantly. This is okay for most applications of structural steel, however even the most minor imperfections can be amplified with a high sheen painted finish. We solved this challenge for St Andrews Constructions by procuring the best quality steel plate through our Steelmart purchasing network. The Steelmart team source only grade 350 steel plate, free of pitting and corrosion. This plate is expertly cut using either a high-definition plasma cut or laser cut to ensure a superior finish. The same applied when sourcing the perforated aluminium sheet for the privacy screens.

Exceptional at every stage

St Andrews Constructions specialise in high-end residences in Noosa with clients that demand exceptional finishes. That’s why they choose Besteel for their plate stringers and window screen installation at Cooran Court. Our fabricators are trade qualified boilermakers who value quality and craftmanship. Throughout the fabrication and coatings process, we handled the products as if they were destined for the showroom. Our approach to the stringers and screens was to assume an ‘automotive finish’. This meant following stringent quality assurance checks at each stage of fabrication as well as carefully wrapping and packaging the product for transport and installation.

Choosing the right paint finish

Getting the right surface finish is no easy task and this is often where other fabricators fail when servicing high-end homes. To overcome this challenge, we work closely with our clients and paint suppliers, as well as leveraging strong relationships with various metal finishing companies. For Couran Court House, we prepped the stringers with an abrasive blast and finished with a 3-coat paint system. The first layer is a corrosion-resistant zinc-epoxy primer which was built up further with a layer of mastic primer and sanded to a smooth finish. Once primed and free of blemishes, we achieved the durable showroom finish by applying a final layer of hard polyurethane topcoat.

The perforated window screens were finished in a black powder coat to match the other external metallic features. Powder coating was selected on the privacy screens for its ability to achieve a consistent and even deposition over the perforations. The window frames in the adjacent setting were also finished using the same method giving a consistent look across the building façade.
